Medusa

Medusa

Here is a Mythological character that represents injustice like few others, (yet another) woman first punished for existing and made into a monster, then murdered, her killer is named a "hero".

I represented her feelings about it:

  • "Scream" (Fear).
  • "Rage" (Self-explanatory).
  • "Mock" (As in f*** you).
  • "Skull" (Her Death).

Find her here. Please note that some times the Skull options are included inside the listing that has a face on it, here is the complete "menu" of which design has which type of face:

These are all the colors with the facial expression combinations made so far, the only one not representing all the facial expressions available is the "Carnival", click to go to the art prints:

Excerpt for Art Exhibition (this exhibition is in Taiwan, therefore I have to present the whole story, as people are generally not familiar with it):

The Injustice of Medusa’s Fate

The story of Medusa, like other legends, has many different versions, but their endings are exactly the same: she was unjustly murdered by the “hero” Perseus.

Medusa and her two sisters are the daughters of the sea gods Phorcys and Ceto. Some stories say that she is beautiful, and some say that she is ugly. In any case, she loved her original hair, but one day the goddess Athena found Medusa sleeping with Poseidon in her own temple (there is also a version that says that Medusa was forced by Poseidon), to punish Medusa, angrily Athena changed her hair into snakes.

Medusa's eyes have special magical powers that can turn people into stone, and King Polydectes had always known this, originally he wanted to marry Perseus's mother, but Perseus did not accept him, so King Polydectes gave Perseus a very dangerous task, which was to find and kill Medusa and bring her head back.

In order to succeed Perseus received a lot of help from other gods: Hermes gave him a pair of winged sandals so that he could fly, Zeus gave him an ‘adamantane’ sword that would not break, and Hades gave him a the Shadow Helmet can make him invisible, and finally Athena gave him a mirror shield. Perseus used the mirror shield to face Medusa, causing her to see her own eyes, while successfully beheading her.

There are countless stories about men violence against women in human history, and then many of these men are called "heroes," this is just one such story.

This illustration has four expressions related to her life and destiny: fear, anger, death and mockery (of humans).
